Temple Reconstruction

Welcome to our fundraising page dedicated to rebuilding the main temple at California Tendai Monastery. This Buddhist temple was destroyed in the 2015 Valley Fire in Cobb, California. The fire not only destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings but also devastated the monastic community by destroying their central place of worship.
The temple was the heart of the lay and monastic community, providing a space for prayer, meditation, and spiritual reflection. It was a sanctuary for the people who resided on the property, and its destruction has had a profound impact on their daily lives and spiritual practice.

To help rebuild this essential institution, we are launching a fundraising campaign to rebuild the temple that will serve as the central focus of the monastic community. The new temple will also serve as a sacred space for use during residential retreats open to the public, providing a unique opportunity for people to immerse themselves in Buddhist teachings and practice.

The California Tendai Monastery has a long tradition of offering residential retreats to people of all backgrounds, providing a space for spiritual renewal and personal growth. The new temple will allow California Tendai Monastery to continue this tradition, offering a peaceful and supportive environment for individuals to deepen their understanding of Buddhist teachings and practice.

Your donation will go towards the construction of the new temple, including its architectural design, materials, and labor costs, as well as the development of programs and services for the residential retreats.
